History and Philosophy

Historical events

From the initial idea to the development of the golf club.

The idea

Golf in Bad Windsheim

As early as the 1970s, the idea of a golf course was first mooted in Bad Windsheim. The vision: golf in peaceful natural surroundings between the Steigerwald and the Frankenhöhe – as a sporting outlet for locals and visitors to the spa town.

In the mid-1980s, the idea was revived. Thanks to a pioneering spirit and perseverance, the idea grew into a concrete project.

1990

The launch and founding of the club

Construction of the golf course began in June 1990. The Reichsstadt Bad Windsheim Golf Club was founded as early as 24 October 1990. Dietmar Mettal and Waldemar Heinlein are regarded as the initiators.

And so the foundations were laid – not only for the pitch, but also for an active club life.

Construction phase

The facility is expanding

It all began with the construction of the driving range. Step by step, this developed into a fully-fledged golf course – complete with paths, fairways and the necessary infrastructure.

In mid-1992, the completion of the building was celebrated with the opening of the restaurant – which remains an important meeting place to this day.

1992–1993

First few rounds – then 18 holes

From May 1992, the 6-hole short course and the first nine holes of the championship course were open for play. In the 1993 season, the second nine holes were opened – the course was now complete.

The layout was well thought out from the start: after both the 9th and the 18th holes, the path leads straight back to the clubhouse.

Turning point

Managed and owned by the club

In the late 1990s, the operating company ran into financial difficulties. The club initially took over the site on a leasehold basis. In 2000, around 10 hectares of land, including the buildings, were purchased.

Since then, the Reichsstadt Bad Windsheim Golf Club has been running the course independently as a non-profit organisation.

Development

Stability and appeal

Over many years, the club has managed to organise its finances and operations in such a way that it now stands on a solid foundation. The unique facilities also attract members from the Nuremberg/Fürth/Erlangen area.

With a peak membership of 525 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the club has reached a milestone that gives it added security.

Gratitude

Honorary President Dieter Wiegel

One man who has shaped the Reichsstadt Bad Windsheim Golf Club like no other is our Honorary President, Dieter Wiegel. As treasurer and later, for many years, as president, he was known for his reliable and sound financial management.

Thank you very much for your extraordinary dedication.

Supporting young people – our future

Supporting children and young people is an integral part of our club’s work. This is made possible by dedicated coaches and mentors who enthusiastically share their experience.

Golf teaches young players concentration, fairness, and respect—values that extend far beyond the sport itself. Young guest players are always welcome here.
